About the Town of Benson and Benson Baptist
The town and the church, founded just one year apart in the late 1800’s, have shared many memories as we’ve grown up together. Throughout the year, the small town charm shows itself as Christmas lights dot main street, the annual Mule Day’s parade and festival brings people to town, or as southern gospel groups come together at the ‘Sing’ every year for a weekend of fun.
Benson boasts a population of over 3,000 people and is located just off of both interstate 95 or 40 which are both accessible in minutes –– depending which way you turn out of the church parking lot! Raleigh, the state capital, is just a 35 minute trip, while the beach is close enough to visit in a day.
We’re also located just 11 miles from the edge of Campbell University, a private Baptist institution founded by one of our former pastors, Rev. Dr. J.A. Campbell. Campbell features more than a beautiful campus, it is a great place to cheer on the Fighting Camels in football, basketball, soccer, tennis, baseball, softball, wrestling or any other sport you love.
You can also drive over to Buies Creek if you’re hungry to grab some Chick-fil-a, Moe’s, or coffee from the on-campus Starbucks or the delicious Creek Coffee located just off of campus.
Benson Baptist, founded in 1887, is a historic town church that is full of friendly faces and caring hearts. Benson is an intergenerational church with members less than one year, or as old as 100 years. We are a community that loves to come together –– for worship, to serve, to eat, and to celebrate life.
Sunday mornings generally feature two opportunities for worship: a contemproary service at 8:45AM in our Fellowship Hall, and a traditional service at 11AM in our 1920s era Sanctuary. Sunday School and fellowship breakfast options round out our Sunday morning communal gatherings!
Whether you’re grabbing a bite to eat at Cornerstone Cafe, catching a game of trivia at Salvaged Heirlooms, visiting the historic library for a book, or just taking a stroll down Main Street, you’re sure to see a friendly BBC face somewhere ready to catch up!
