You've Got Questions, We've Got Answers!

As you think about joining us for an event or worship service, you might have a few questions about what life in the faith community at BBC is really like. We’ll here are some answers to a few of those! If you read to the bottom of this page and still have questions, email us: debbie@bensonbaptist.org!

What's Your History?

In a nutshell, Benson Baptist Church was founded in January 1887 and has served the Benson community and beyond ever since. Gathering for worship on the fourth Sunday of every month, the community quickly grew from five charter members to the church that it is today. While much of our history is, well, history, it brings us great pride to continue carrying on the work of all of the BBCers from 1887 to today. Our current Sanctuary building, completed around 1918, still carries with it the feel of congregations of old, walking through life and growing in faith together!

What are the people like?

The people that are the faith community at Benson Baptist Church are a warm, inviting, loving, and grace-filled group that know we’re not perfect and have no desire to pretend otherwise. While our community carries many differences in opinion, politics, theology, and more, we are united in our love for Christ and our desire to love those around us.

We are composed of people of all age groups (literally less than one year to over 100 years) and we do our best to include everyone in the visioning for what the future looks like.

If you come as a new visitor, you will be welcomed and treated as if you are a part of BBC –– even if it is your very first day.

We love much, we smile a lot, we walk through tough times together, we give space for tough questions, we don’t always agree, BUT we do find ways to continue as the community that we are called to be.

Come, be yourself, and know that you are welcome here!

What do Sunday mornings look like?

Currently, due to the on-going COVID-19 pandemic, we are gathering Sundays at 10:00AM both in-person (under our Returning Guidelines) or online (via our livestream). You can find more information about what that looks like on our Sunday Dashboard.

Outside of the current realities, we gather for our Contemporary Worship service on Sundays at 8:45am in our Fellowship Hall, followed by a community breakfast and Sunday School. At 11:00AM, our traditional service gathers in our Sanctuary. For more on what those services look like, click here.

What do I wear? There is no dress code at BBC! You’ll find people dressed ‘up’ and ‘down.’ Come comfortable!

What about babies?

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, our nursey is not currently staffed during in-person events, though it is available for use by parents when needed.

We also have a nursing infant’s room available for parents of infants to use when needed for feeding or changing their infants!

Our annual baby dedication service is a chance for the larger church and parents to enter into a covenant of walking together throughout the life of every infant born into our faith community. For more on that service, email debbie@bensonbaptist.org.

What about children?

The BBC Kid’s Ministry is a growing and excited group of kids! Currently, they gather for in-person meet-up events each month.

Throughout the year, the Kid’s Ministry includes events like: game days, movie parties, Easter Egg hunts, Vacation Bible School, and more!

What about teens?

We know that the teenage years can be difficult as teens are asking tough questions, exploring the fullness of life, and seeking to grow into their own person. Our youth group is a place where they are able to ask questions without judgment, grow at their own pace, and have fun while doing it all!

Our youth group gathers every Sunday night at 6pm in our Fellowship Hall for in-person youth group and every Wednesday at 5:15pm on Zoom for a mid-week catch-up.

Throughout the year the youth group particpates in missions events, attends youth camps, goes on retreats, and much more! For the most up-to-date information on what’s happening with the youth group, click here.

Ages in the youth group: 6th-12th grade (5th graders move up the summer between 5th and 6th grade year).

What about college and young adults?

Our young adult community gathers weekly for small group discussions and meets for events throughout the year. For more on what’s happening with the young adult community, click here.

What about older adults?

Who are you affiliated with?

One of the great distinctives of the Baptist denomination is the autonomy of the local church, meaning that each church is self-governing and not subject to a set of guidelines or beliefs prescribed by a higher ecclesial body. Nonetheless, while affirming our autonomy as a church, we Benson Baptists consider it a blessing to partner alongside various denominational and interdenominational organizations in our efforts to love God and love others in the world. Below is a list of the groups with whom we affiliate and partner. Each organization is linked to its own website in case you wish to learn more.
